White Dog wasn't quite sure how to react when Michael sprawled out on his stomach across the living room floor and with his face right against hers, began talking to her. He is a big kid and a little overwhelming. She looked puzzled and trapped at first, but then turned her head toward me and with her eyes asked for advice. I gave her a slight nod and White Dog offered herself to his gentle fingers stroking her neck and back as he showered her with sweet words. Michael scooted closer to her and encompassed White Dog in the circle of his arms and body. I could see her tense at this "fence," but she did not balk. Together they sat, being petted and petting. Very soon White Dog felt comfortable enough to lie down in his embrace. "I think she is finally starting to love me," Michael happily reported to Steve and I as we oversaw the exchange.
