White Dog knew that the early alarm meant this morning was Park Day! She was up in an instant and dancing all over the bed. "Sorry Sweetie," I groggily announced, "but this morning Steve has to take Michael to high school extra early so that he can finish his registration and start classes." White Dog was very disappointed but when she saw how nervous Michael was about the start of yet another new adventure in his life, she focused on reassuring him. She sat next to him as he ate breakfast and put his shoes on. She gave him a paw pat on the leg for luck and watched from her window perch until the car was out of sight. Then she moped around waiting all morning and afternoon for both our missing family members. When he returned, White Dog was there at the door to greet him and with tail wags and head butts welcome him home. "It wasn't too bad," Michael told her.
Steve brought in a box left by the mailman and White Dog knew it was for her. "See," Steve said, "Not everything today is sad." Together they opened the box from Cappy to discover "Just Because" presents--liver biscuits and a beautiful hand crocheted blanket with dog print ribbons! Cappy is such a thoughtful friend, she said, and his mom is very talented! Of course, we sampled (and sampled and sampled once more) the biscuits and White Dog decided that she wanted the Eskie, snowy white blanket on the couch. "Right by where she sits next to me!" Michael interpreted.
