White Dog is amazing to watch when she is her "engineering mode" trying to solve a problem. The tissue box sits on the night stand on my side of the bed but the furniture has latticework sides that her paw cannot fit through. For some reason she really wanted the tissues this morning. From the front on the floor, she is not tall enough to reach the box. She cannot twist her body enough to stand on the bed and reach around to the front. She cannot scratch her way through the latticework. I know because I watched her experiment. Satisfied that she was outsmarted (always my mistake) I went to do other things. White Dog remained lying on the bed nosing the stand and thinking. Half an hour later, White Dog joined me in at the computer, with something in her mouth to trade! It was...a Kleenex! I went into the bedroom to discover the bed covered in shredded tissues and the box nearly empty on the floor. Ever the persistent engineer, White Dog apparently discovered that if she nosed the bottom drawer of the night stand open slightly that it became a convenient step allowing her to reach the prize! Her intelligence and ingenuity is such a delight (despite its "evil" application) that I could not help but reward her with belly rubs, laughter and treats.
