White Dog knew with exactly two weeks until the Recommitment Ceremony that today was going to chockful of activity. She was ready to "go" when Steve returned from teaching and rushed him through lunch. Now that I can get around easier, White Dog especially loves going for car rides because we all go together. First stop was the Dollar Store to pick up baskets we would need for the party favors. Although we didn't find exactly what we wanted, White Dog and Steve agreed--and convinced me--that another approach would work just as well. Next up was the Pet Store where White Dog was in charge of choosing the "Thank You" gifts for our special honor guard. Instead of a bridal party, Steve and I will be escorted to the site of our vows exchange by a Canine Honor Guard: White Dog, Dragon, Prinnie, and Digby each wearing a beautiful hearts and red ribbon necklace specially made for the day by Hana's mom. In choosing gifts, White Dog took her time and deliberated quite a while before coming up with just the perfect combination of things. Next stop was the final discussion with the cake baker...the orange dark chocolate flavored cake with orange Bavarian cream filling is heavenly and the design is just what we wanted. There is even a tiny version of White Dog on the top, complete with Honor Guard necklace! While we were licking crumbs off our fingers (and White Dog puff pastry and cream off her snout), I casually said "too bad there isn't a little more time before Thanksgiving, I would have really liked to tile that awful counter top." At this point I didn't expect it was at all a possibility but White Dog looked at Steve and he at her and the next thing I knew we were headed to Home Depot to choose tile! When we got home Steve immediately started working on the counter. I worked on wedding stuff. White Dog pointed out that since the kitchen was now "under construction" wasn't it too bad that we could not cook dinner and maybe we should order Chinese carryout. As she chowed down on beef in oyster sauce and mixed mushrooms with chicken she looked at me and winked...so that was why she encouraged the counter project!
