Shannyn Moore Awarded the Steve Gilliard Grant for Journalism at 2009 Netroots Nation

Shannyn Moore, Alaska's most courageous, outspoken and mercurial independent commentator, was awarded the 2009 Steve Gilliard Grant for Journalism at a general session of the Netroots Nation conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this morning.

According to one source, she received a long standing ovation. The only reference to the award I've been able to find on the web so far, is this one, by AK Muckraker, who is attending the conference with Shannyn:

Shannyn Moore is this year’s winner of “The Steve Gilliard Grant for Journalism!” She was very surprised to be the recipient of this $500 grant, and I’ve got pictures to post later! Congratulations Shannyn!

Steve Gilliard, one of the web's most influential, contentious and accurate early bloggers, would have been quite proud to have his name associated with Shannyn Moore. More than once, her combination of pride in liberalism and deep knowledge on important issues have reminded me of Steve's columns at his site, The News Blog.

According to one of my sources at the Netroots Nation Conference, both Shannyn and AK Muckraker have been overwhelmed by the interest in the important roles they played in getting the word out on just who Sarah Palin The Crazy Woman is. Apparently, there is a growing realization that not only does Shannyn Moore know how to field dress a moose or a bear - she can field dress a lipstick-encrusted pitbull.

More on this as information becomes available.

I am so proud of Shannyn.

Update: My article at The Seminal on Shannyn.
