Today was our last day in the camps, and we went to Bojador, the same camp where we had the peace dialogue. We spent the entire day with an amazing man who has been a worker in the camps with his family for many years. We sat with him for tea and listened to his stories. We were also able to help him with a few projects around his home -planting trees and fixing a broken wall. His love for the Saharawi people was contagious and the work he has done was inspiring.
In the evening, we had to say goodbye to our Saharawi host family. We packed up our things, took showers (some of us), and dinner. Our host mom cried as she hugged us goodbye. It was emotional. We had connected on such a deep level with this family. Our flight left Tindouf at 1:30am, so we loaded up the jeeps and began driving through the Sahara Desert. This was the first of 4 flight we needed to catch to get us home to Harrisburg. It will take us about 33 hours to travel home.
This was my 3rd trip to the camps, and every time we grow deeper in love and friendship with our Saharawi friends. We pray for freedom -that they would get their land back from the illegal occupation of Morocco. It is an honor to stand with them in their cause. They are not forgotten.
