Image tracked to here, but I can't decipher any of the accompanying text, and haven't found the photo elsewhere using a reverse image search engine.
Are these pits natural formations? remnants of ancient mining or occupation? vandalism by treasure-seeking "potholers?"
Update - Thanx to Shepdi, aviatrix, and MJ for recognizing this as an aerial view of the residual effects of WWII shelling at Pointe du Hoc in Normandy. Impressive.
