The V-22 tilt-rotor program has been touted as the future of US Marine aviation. It has also been beset by controversy throughout its 20-year development period. Crashes that have killed more than 20 Marines, and engine stalls have not been good publicity for the program. Issues with their AE1107C Liberty engines in Iraq that may lead to the end of Rolls Royce’s Power By the Hour® maintenance arrangement, or even replacement of the Liberty engines altogether.
