KEGALLE DISTRICT, Sri Lanka – From the time he could walk, Thayalan's parents told him he had a destiny.

Thayalan's mother and father were members of the Tamil Tiger terrorist group. They assured him that, one day, he would become a so-called Black Tiger, one of the Tigers' suicide bombers.

As much as he dreamed of going to university and seeing the world, Thayalan was an obedient son. So in December 2007, long after his parents had been killed in an air raid, the then-16-year-old joined the Tamil Tigers.

My Comment: This is a gripping story. With the defeat of the Tigers (LTTE) only a few weeks/months away, we are going to be inundated with news reports on what life was like to live under these people.

Stories of child soldiers, the murdering of political opponents, the war crimes committed by the LTTE during the war ..... all this and more will make it's way to the public domain for all of us to read and learn about it.
