Sri Lankan Forces Move To Crush Tiger Rebellion

Sri Lankan soldiers have made swift new advances into hostile territory in the hope of striking a decisive blow in the country's 26-year civil war by capturing rebel headquarters.

After seizing Kilinochchi, the political capital of the Tamil Tigers, government forces raced along the main roads north and east towards the Jaffna peninsula and the Tigers' military headquarters at Mullaitivu.

As they battled retreating guerrillas along the jungle-fringed A9 highway, the soldiers knew they had already won a crucial strategic victory: Kilinochchi controls the land route to Jaffna, the heart of Tigers territory.

"The battle for Mullaitivu has already begun," Sri Lanka's defence ministry said in a statement

My Comment: The Prime Minister and the Sri Lankan Defense Chief were publicly stating six months ago that victory will be at hand by New Years. They have been off on their date, by they have been right on whose side would have the momentum to win at this time.
