US Successfully Tests Anti-Missile Shield -- Developing

From Channel NewsAsia:

WASHINGTON - The Pentagon on Friday successfully intercepted a target long-range missile during the testing of a US missile defense system, the Defence Department said.

"We had a successful intercept" at 3:29 pm (2029 GMT), Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said of the test, seen as a crucial step for the anti-missile shield Washington plans to base in Eastern Europe.

The interceptor missile was launched from the Vandenberg air base in California, while the target -- a fake warhead -- was set off from the Alaskan island of Kodiak.
