'Triggering' event could prompt strike on American soil
BEIRUT: Hizbullah could, if provoked, support an attack on US soil in coming years, according to a wide-ranging US Homeland Security report. The five-year domestic security forecast noted that Hizbullah has no history of attacking the continental US or fomenting attacks within the US, but suggested that following a "triggering" event, the group could support such a strike.
A separate 2008 US Interagency Intelligence Report had noted that Hizbullah has operatives working within the US, raising money through charities and other activities, which include, according to the Homeland Security assessment, acts of money laundering, smuggling, fraud and drug trafficking.
