Imagery ‘can now be used as an operational planning tool’
Three years ago, then-Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam presciently warned that the sort of high-resolution satellite imagery openly available through Google Earth and other online and private sector imagery providers poses a threat to India’s security.
Speaking to India’s top police officers at the Vallabhabhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, Kalam cautioned the officers about the risks that are posed by such emerging "open-source intelligence." To make his point, he showed the officers geographically detailed imagery of sensitive locations in India.
Science and technology secretary, V. S. Ramamoorthy, followed up saying “what is a matter of great concern is the sufficient resolution provided by the satellite images on Google Earth posing a security threat to various installations.”
“The terrorists [who attacked sites in Mumbai] would not have been able to carry out these attacks had it not been for technology. They were not sailors, but they were able to use sophisticated GPS navigation tools and detailed [digital] maps [and imagery] to sail from Karachi to Mumbai," G. Parthasarathy, an internal security expert at the Center for Policy Research in New Delhi, told the Washington Post.

My Comment: I am using Google Earth to check out hot spots around the world .... if i am doing it, I am sure that others with hostile intent are doing so also.
