Irregular warfare, the U.S. Defense Department’s new priority, is making demands for language and cultural skills the Pentagon is not able to fill using just the classroom and indigenous Americans. The Defense Language Institute, a national treasure if there ever was one, has seen its budget more than triple this decade. Language training has increased at the service academies and at U.S. military bases around the world. Yet shortfalls in language and cultural skills, especially in the exotic geographic areas where America is now fighting, remain.

My Comment: This has always been America's strength .... a diversity that is unmatched anywhere in the world .... and it is reflective in it's military.
