Throughout the post-Palin selection period of the 2008 national election, Alaska's progressive bloggers contributed to getting the truth out about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. We contributed a lot. We mostly kept to posting essays that were informative about Palin's past and present activities. We mostly kept out of describing the Palin family, keeping toward policies and beliefs of the governor.During September and October the combined readership of the progressive blogs listed on the right-hand side of this page was significantly higher than readership at the Anchorage Daily News. That will probably change during November.
The number of journalists from outside of Alaska and the USA who worked with or got help from Alaska bloggers marked an important aspect of why the Palin candidacy changed the face of Alaska in many remarkable ways. And an important aspect of why the Palin candidacy, more than any other aspect of the McCain campaign, caused that campaign to fail.
Two of our progressive Alaska bloggers have gained a lot of national traction. AK Muckraker's Mudflats blog has become nothing less than a phenomenon. It is seeing far higher traffic than any other Alaska political blog has ever seen, with a large community of regular, creative commenters, from all around the planet.
And Shannyn Moore, with her blog, Just a Girl from Homer, as a sort of base, continues to draw many supporters around the country, through the blog, through her radio and television appearances, and through her essays at high-traffic national blogs, such as Huffington Post.
Now that the election is over, I did little bit of housekeeping at the Progressive Alaska Blogs listing on the right-hand side of the page:
I've eliminated Alaska Anonymous, Alaska Cafe, Alaskablawg, Radio Icebox, rant.mivox, and the Ray Metcalfe blog. They have all gone inactive.
I've added Aaron Selbig's blog, The Penitent Scribe, I Eat Gravel, and Alaska Politics (not the Anchorage Daily News politics blog - a different one).
