Many of you may remember that last March I spent part of spring break in Miami in order to be part of my friend Sandy's team for the Juvenille Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes. Sandy's then two-year-old son had just been diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, a disease that I've been living with since age 14. (You can read about last year's walk here; my story about living with Type I is here.)
Sandy is busy putting together this year's team for the March 15 walk, and while I won't be able to walk with them this time around, I'm still excited to be able to support the team. Thanks to many of you, we raised $11,500 last year (after setting a goal of $5,000), so this year, the group is again reaching high with a $10,000 goal. If you'd like to support the team - and, more importantly, efforts to find a cure for Sandy's son and for me - you can donate to the cause here. Even a small donation helps - we are closer than ever to finding a cure that would mean an end to the daily routine of fingersticks, injections, and swinging blood sugars for him and me.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to have a three-year-old who lives with diabetes (while also raising his two-year-old brother), Sandy and her husband have put together this video about a day in their son's life:
