civil liberties? what civil liberties?

I find it very frightening that Texas' homeland security intelligence-gathering capability is in the hands of a political office (in this case, the office of the Texas Governor), rather than under the direct control of law enforcement. Put it this way: if it's concerning DPS, it should concern all of us.

Some of my students, with whom I just spent an hour discussing religious liberty and warrantless wiretapping, apparently would not have the same concerns.
