new music monday

We here at Texas in Africa are of course on the cutting edge of new music and make it our business to get the buzz to you first. Or something like that. Anyway, I've been listening a lot lately to Canadian band The Acorn. They have a really unique electronic alternative sound, sortof Explosions in the Sky plus vocals. You can download a bunch of their songs for free on their website, including stuff from their November release Blankets. My personal favorites are "Blankets" and "Plates and Saucers," and "Darcy" off of The Pink Ghosts. There's also a live show that's downloadable from their label, Kelp Records.

The music is low-key but profound. Great January music for those unending grey sky, 30-degree days when it seems like spring is a hundred years away and everything is going wrong. I like it more and more with every listen.

And if The Acorn gets big, just remember, you heard it from the hipster indie rock scene on Texas in Africa first.
