FIRST MUSIC CD DRM

Earthtimes reports that Sony is to be the first company to install copy-protection on music CDs. The process, known as sterile burning, will allow owners of CDs to make a limited number of copies (perhaps 3) of the music on them but then will prevent copying.

The IPKat says that this seems like a compromise since it has made provision for fair use copies of music before the DRM properly kicks in, though he cautions that some users may need to make more fair use copies of the music than the amount set by Sony.
