Awesome. Our ridiculously large (desks for 1,000) embassy in Baghdad will be completed later this year. There are already concerns about the security of the compound, which the ICG has identified as the world's largest embassy.


I see its size and construction as lending credence to the idea that the plan all along was to establish a permanent U.S. presence in the Middle East. This is what the neocons have dreamed of for thirty years, and there's an argument to be made that they saw the post-9/11 environment as their big chance. Put it this way: we'll either be occupiers for a long, long time, or there will be an enormous school for young revolutionary guards as is the case in Tehran. Sigh.
